Coach Brett Huston

Varsity Coach - Casteel High School

​

This is Coach Huston's fourth year at Casteel High School as Varsity Coach and 24th year coaching basketball. He began his Junior High School and High School coaching career in 2000 in the Flowing Wells School District. In 2004, he moved to Queen Creek High School where he served as the Boys' Freshman Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for Troy Gibson. He spent two years as the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach before becoming the Varsity Boys Assistant Coach at Campo Verde High School for Neil MacDonald and, later, Michael Wirth. In 2014-2015, he served as an Assistant Varsity Coach for the Corona Del Sol Aztecs, where his team went 33-1 and won the Division I State Championship.  They finished the year ranked 8th nationally according to Maxpreps Final 2014-2015 Top 25 rankings.

 

Coach Huston is responsible for opening the Men’s Basketball program at Casteel High School.  Last year was the schools 2nd year of Varsity basketball.  They finished 3rd in PowerPoints rankings in the 3A conference and Coach Huston won Metro Region Coach of the Year. Both Varsity seasons the boys have reached the Sweet 16 of the State tournament.

 

He's the father of three boys: James, Liam and Nathan. For the past 20 years, he's been married to the love of his life, Jena.

Coach Justin Toenjes

Assistant Varsity Coach - Casteel High School

This is Coach Toenjes 2nd year with the program.  He was raised in Gilbert, Arizona and attended Gilbert High School.  He played 2 years of Varsity Basketball and Baseball.  He continued his athletic pursuits at Scottsdale Community College on a baseball scholarship.  He been coaching youth athletics as a volunteer for the past 12 years and enjoys watching kids work hard and develop their skills both as athletes and young men and women.  Coach Toenjes currently resides in Gilbert with his wife Soja and three children: Keaton, Ella, and Ava.

Coach Ty Church

Assistant Varsity Coach - Casteel High School

​

This is Coach Church’s first year on the coaching staff at Casteel. After high

school and a LDS mission to the Czech Republic, Ty played basketball at the

University of Utah, Ricks College, and the University of Denver. Ty credits

coaches John Bowman, Rick Majerus, Clyde Nelson and many others for

helping him understand the game of basketball. Since then, Ty graduated

from the University of Utah School of Medicine, completed residency in

Anesthesiology, and has been practicing medicine in Arizona. He married

Tiffany Driggs Church in 1999 and has 6 children, Jackson, Davis, Ella,

Avery, Tessa, and Walker.

Coach Ben Wilson

Assistant Varsity Coach - Casteel High School

Coach Wilson is the Math Department Chair at Casteel High School.  He teaches everything from Honors Algebra 1 to Honors Pre-Calculus.  Wilson was born and raised in Canton, Ohio.  He graduated from THE Ohio State University and then moved to Arizona where he met his wife, Tara and they have 2 children (Maddox and Makayla) who are a 5th and 2nd grader at Auxier Elementary.  The Wilson Family cheers on all of the Casteel and Auxier sports and clubs… and then cheers for everything Scarlet and Gray!  GO BUCKEYES! 

Coach Wilson has coached and been a part of several high school programs throughout his coaching career.  Those high school programs include Bishop Hartley High School in Columbus, Ohio; Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Ohio; Tolleson Union High School in Tolleson, Arizona; Horizon Honors High School in Awhatukee, Arizona; and his last stop before becoming a COLT was at Williams Field High School in Gilbert, Arizona. 

Ben believes that it is a true honor and privilege to be a Colt and a part of the Casteel High School Boys Basketball program.  He looks forward to a season full of memories and moments that will last a lifetime.
